Ukraine Will Fight Russia Until Victory: Zelensky In New Year Address

Ukraine Will Fight Russia Until Victory: Zelensky In New Year Address

Ukraine will fight the Russian invasion until victorious, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his New Year address Saturday, paying tribute to all those taking part in the war effort. "We fight and will continue to fight. For the sake of the main word: 'victory'," he said, as his country saw the old year out.

Hours after Ukraine suffered another wave of Russian missile attacks, Zelensky remained defiant in an emotional speech in which he heaped praise on all those people involved in the war in Ukraine.

"I want to say to all of you: Ukrainians, you are incredible! See what we have done and what we are doing!

"How our soldiers have been smashing this 'second army of the world' since the first days.

"How our people stopped their equipment and infantry columns...

"There are no small matters in a great war," Zelensky added.

"There are no unnecessary ones. Each of us is a fighter. Each of us is a front. Each of us is the basis of the defense.

"We fight as one team -- the whole country, all our regions. I admire you all. I want to thank every invincible region of Ukraine."

The latest wave of Russian missile strikes on Ukraine included several hits in Kyiv.

AFP journalists heard at least 11 loud blasts in the early afternoon, and the city's mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least one person had been killed as a result of the attacks.

City officials said several others had been wounded.

Home Quarantine Mandatory In Karnataka For Flyers From High-Risk Countries

Home Quarantine Mandatory In Karnataka For Flyers From High-Risk Countries

The Karnataka government on Saturday issued revised guidelines against COVID infections among people coming from high-risk countries. The guidelines say that 7 days of home quarantine is mandatory for those coming from high-risk countries from the time of their arrival. The government has made negative COVID status a must for passengers coming from those nations.

The government decided to enhance surveillance and containment effort within the State by tracking and quarantining the primary and secondary contacts of the COVID-positive persons.

“The international travelers from high-risk countries - China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand - need to be home quarantined for 7 days from the date of their arrival. Once tested positive, the infected people are to be treated and managed as per the State COVID protocol,” said a circular from Health Department meant for the international passengers.

Further, it said the RT-PCR certificate of each passenger should be verified for negative COVID status before allowing them to leave the airport.

Airport authorities should provide necessary assistance in this regard, the Health Department said.

It said the district health officer of Bengaluru Urban district, Bengaluru Rural and Kolar have to depute 5 health information officers (HIO) each from their district to Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru from January 1 on a rotation basis until further orders.

The HIOs would carry out the exercise round the clock for which the district health officers have to make necessary travel arrangements for the deputed staff.

“On arrival if any of the international passengers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand countries are found symptomatic, they shall be immediately isolated and transferred to the designated medical facility for clinical management,” the guideline said.

It said the samples should be collected and submitted for RT-PCR testing and for genome sequencing if tested positive in RT-PCR.

Other asymptomatic passengers should leave the airport and self-monitor their health for symptoms and comply with COVID-appropriate behaviour (CAB) like wearing of face masks, social distancing, practise respiratory and hand hygiene, and strictly remain under home quarantine for the next seven days, the guideline added.

“If the passengers develop symptoms like fever, cough, cold, body ache, headache, loss of taste and smell, diarrhoea and breathing difficulty, they shall immediately self-isolate and report to the local surveillance health team for testing,” the Health Department said.

“If tested positive, they shall be shifted to the designated medical facility (government or private) for isolation. Positive samples shall be sent for genome sequencing,” it added.

If the genome sequencing report shows anyone positive for the BF.7 variant or a new sub-variant, then another sample should be taken for RT-PCR and the person should follow CAB strictly till the results are known, the department said.

“If children below 12 years of age who are exempted from both pre-departure and post-arrival testing develop symptoms on arrival or during the period of self-monitoring and home quarantine for next seven days, they shall follow the same protocol as above for adults except that a parent or guardian in good health shall accompany them and be the care-giver to the child during the period of isolation and treatment as applicable,” the guidelines read.

The department said the 10 per cent of the international passengers from the high-risk countries should be monitored through call centre on a daily basis for symptoms and for further action.

The Health Department issued circular for the people of Karnataka in view of rising cases in certain parts of the world.

The measures have been taken in view of the new Variant of Concern (VoC)- XBB and BF-7 spreading rapidly in few countries of the globe and a few cases are reported in India and the State of Karnataka too, it said.

In its circular, the government said the primary contacts and secondary contacts (PC/SC) should be quarantined within 24 hours of identification at their designated places or home.

According to the Health Department, currently about 30 to 40 cases are being reported daily in Karnataka and the test positivity rate (TPR) has been around 0.5 per cent to 0.7 per cent for the past five months.

Search Operation Underway In Jammu's Rajouri, Weeks After Civilian Killings

Security forces on Saturday launched a search operation in parts of Jammu and Kashmir's border town of Rajouri, where two civilians were killed in a firing incident outside an Army camp early this month, officials said.

The search was being conducted by joint teams of the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Phalyana and adjoining localities, including the Tourism Reception Center and fish pond, they said.

The officials said sniffer dogs were also pressed into service during the operation, which was still continuing when last reports were received.

Two local people of Phalyana village were killed and one person was injured in the firing outside the Army camp on December 16.

While the Army blamed unidentified terrorists for the firing, the locals staged a massive protest against the force and demanded an inquiry.

Powered By Modified Charkha, Women Spin Success Stories In Kashmir

Powered By Modified Charkha, Women Spin Success Stories In Kashmir

A delicate pashmina yarn holds promise for hundreds of women in Kashmir valley. Powered by a modified charkha, over 200 women spinners have ended the year 2022 with doubling their output and income.

The modification in the age-old charkha has changed the life of Shaesta Bilal. Since the income is based on output of spinning, the foot pedal charkha has come to her aid.

In Srinagar's downtown area, women like Shaesta are spinning the finest yarn in the world and modified charkha has given them confidence and self-reliance.

"This (modified charka) has given us the means to make a living so that we are self-reliant. Thank God we are earning more and we are not dependent on anybody. Now I'm not financially dependent on my husband," said Shaesta Bilal.

Ms Shaesta was given a new charkha and training by a pashmina shawl trader in Srinagar a year ago. Since then she has graduated to a resource person for other women.

Over the last one year, more than 200 women have been trained and given modified charkhas. The initiative is part of an effort to protect and preserve the genuine age-old craft of pashmina shawls, which is facing a massive invasion of fake and machine-made shawls.

The government has also started GI (geographical indicator) tagging of Kashmiri shawls to preserve its unique character and value in the market.

Over the years, the number of women spinning pashmina has come down drastically in Kashmir valley, mainly due to low wages and less output on the traditional charkha.

According to Mujtaba Qadri, who owns the training centre for women spinners and equip them with the new charkha, the modifications in the tool were made by Shere-e-Kashmir Agricultural University a few years ago.

"I started training with a few women initially. Once we saw the results that we were able to double the produce, which in turns doubles the income of women, I decided to run this programme," said Mujaba, who runs a family shawl business.

Besides providing modified charkha for free, Mujtaba also give a-15 day training course to women spinners. "From our centre, over 200 women have been trained in the last one year and we have provided them modified charkha as well," he said.

At the centre, Nusrat Begum says life has become a bit easier for her after she was trained to use the new charkha. From squatting on the floor to sitting on a chair, her spinning production has doubled.

"It has helped me a great deal. I used to spin three gram of yarn on the old charkha. Now I can spin six grams," said Ms Begum.

For centuries, the secret behind Kashmir's elegant pashmina shawls is fine spinning by women. It further goes to master artisans for weaving. For making some shawls with intricate work, it takes months and even a year to weave.

While the new charkha helps women spin more and earn more, the wages are still less. For a knot, which is 10 threads of yarn, they are being paid Re 1.5. They want more.

"The charkha is very useful to us. We are thankful to Qadri sahib as he gave us this charkha for free and we are doing very well on it. We work at home and also train others. We requested him if could increase our wages," said Yasmeena.

Google Voice to Alert Users With 'Suspected Spam Caller' Warning for Suspicious Calls

Google Voice to Alert Users With 'Suspected Spam Caller' Warning for Suspicious Calls

Google Voice will now make it more easy for a user to ignore spam calls with the launch of a new update. Google has now added a warning to its Voice feature which will alert the user by flagging “Suspected spam caller” label on calls that may seem suspicious. The user can also remove a number from the spam list by simply marking a call to be not spam. The enhanced secure calling feature adds to Google Voice's recent addition of Wi-Fi and network cellular switching.

According to a recent announcement by the tech giant, Google Voice will now protect its users from unwanted calls and potentially harmful scams by displaying a red “suspected spam caller” label on all calls that will appear suspicious. The selection of numbers as spam will be done using advanced artificial intelligence.

The spam label for a number will be displayed on the caller screen as well as in the call history. The user will have a choice to let a call remain spam or remove it by confirming the identity of the number as a spam or a genuine contact. In case if the number is confirmed to be a spam, the future calls from that particular contact will go directly into voicemail. Meanwhile, removing a number from spam list will not show any warning on future calls.

Google has informed that the phased rollout of the feature has started from December 29 and may take up to 15 days for the feature to appear on Google Voice. It will be eventually available to all Google Voice users.

The suspected spam label will be activated automatically if the Voice spam filter is off. To automatically send a suspected spam call to voicemail, go to Settings > Security > Filter Spam >Turn it On.

States Directed To Form Units In Police Stations For Motor Accident Claims

States Directed To Form Units In Police Stations For Motor Accident Claims

The Supreme Court has directed the states to constitute a special unit in police stations within three months to investigate and facilitate motor accident claim cases.

Issuing a slew of directions, the top court said on receiving intimation about a road accident by a motor vehicle at a public place, the SHO concerned shall take steps as per Section 159 of the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act under which an Accident Information Report is to be filed to the Claims Tribunal within three months by the police.

"In our view, the head of the Home Department of the State and the Director General of Police in all States/Union Territories shall ensure the compliance of the Rules by constituting a special unit in the police stations or at least at town level to investigate and facilitate the motor accident claim cases. The said action must be ensured within a period of three months," a bench of Justices S A Nazeer and J K Maheshwari said.

The top court said after registering the FIR, the Investigating Officer (IO) shall act as specified in the Motor Vehicles Amendment Rules, 2022, and submit the First Accident Report within 48 hours to the Claims Tribunal.

"The registering officer is duty bound to verify the registration of the vehicle, driving licence, the fitness of vehicle, permits, and other ancillary issues and submit the report in coordination to the police officer before the Claims Tribunal.

"The flow chart and all other documents, as specified in the rules, shall either be in the vernacular language or in the English language, as the case may be, and shall be supplied as per Rules," the bench said in a recent order.

Observing that the role of the IO is very important, it said the officer shall inform the victim or the legal representative, driver, owner, insurance companies, and other stakeholders with respect to the action taken while following the Motor Vehicles Amendment Rules.

"In case the claimant or legal representative of the victim has filed a separate claim petition in the territorial jurisdiction of different High Courts, the first claim petition filed by the claimant/legal representative(s) shall be maintained and the subsequent claim petition shall stand transferred to the Claims Tribunal where the first claim petition was filed and (is) pending.

"It is made clear here that the claimant are not required to apply before this Court seeking transfer of other claim petition though filed in the territorial jurisdiction of different High Courts," the bench said.

The Supreme Court also directed the state authorities to take appropriate steps to develop a joint web portal/platform to coordinate with and facilitate the stakeholders for carrying out the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act and the Rules in coordination with any technical agency and be notified to the public. The top court's order came on a plea challenging an order passed by the Allahabad High Court which dismissed the appeal filed against the award passed by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).

The MACT had allowed the claim petition and awarded a compensation of Rs 31,90,000 in favour of legal representatives of a 24-year-old man who died in a road accident. The victim's car was hit by a bus on the bypass road near Sanhwali village in Uttar Pradesh when he was returning home from the factory. The victim sustained severe injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

Krishna Kumari, a Hindu senator from Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh province took to Twitter on Thursday to break the news of Daya Bheel, a Hindu widow's murder in Sinjhiro, a town in Sanghar district in Sindh province.

"Daya Bheel suddenly disappeared from agri field yesterday near Sinjhoro. Her dead body was found in a very bad condition in mustard field. Her head was separated from the body," Kumari tweeted.

Bheel's mutilated body was found on December 27, after her son Soomar went searching for her in the mustard field.

Chinese Jet Came Within 20 Feet Of American Military Aircraft: US

Chinese Jet Came Within 20 Feet Of American Military Aircraft: US

A Chinese fighter jet flew dangerously within 20 feet (six meters) of a much larger US air force surveillance aircraft over the South China Sea, the US military said Thursday.

In the December 21 incident, a Chinese Navy J-11 fighter pilot "performed an unsafe maneuver during an intercept of a US Air Force RC-135 aircraft," the US Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement.

The Chinese pilot flew in front of and within 20 feet of the nose of the US aircraft, "forcing the RC-135 to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision," it said.

The RC-135, "was lawfully conducting routine operations over the South China Sea in international airspace," the US command said.

The incident came as China has sent increasingly large groups of warplanes out over the sea towards Taiwan in a show of force, as Beijing stiffens its claim of sovereignty over the US-backed, self-ruled island.

Last weekend, China flew 71 warplanes, including dozens of fighter jets, in military exercises around Taiwan, one of the largest such actions yet since Beijing started deploying military aircraft into Taiwan's air defence identification zone.

The People's Liberation Army said it had conducted a "strike drill" on Sunday in response to unspecified "provocations" and "collusion" between the United States and Taiwan.

According to an AFP database, there have been more than 1,700 such incursions so far this year, compared with 969 in 2021. Taiwan's defence ministry said it recorded around 380 incursions in 2020.

The United States has provided Taiwan with substantial military aid and advanced technologies to defend itself from any possible Chinese invasion.

Washington has also angered Beijing by refusing to accept its disputed claims to numerous small islands across the South China Sea, islands which are in waters claimed by other Southeast Asian countries.

Congress Leader Invites Smriti Irani To Join Bharat Jodo Yatra

Congress Leader Invites Smriti Irani To Join Bharat Jodo Yatra

Congress leader and former Uttar Pradesh MLC Deepak Singh on Thursday said he has written to BJP MP from Amethi Smriti Irani, inviting her to join the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra in the state.

Mr Singh said he handed over the invitation to Irani's secretary Naresh Sharma at her camp office in Gauriganj on Wednesday.

The former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) said he was directed by the senior leaders of his party to invite everyone to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra. "I thought that Amethi MP Smriti Zubin Irani should be given an invitation letter before anybody else," he said.

Asked about the invite, district president of the BJP Durgesh Tripathi said there was no question of the Amethi MP or any other worker of the party joining the yatra.

"The BJP always works on the concept of a united India. India has never been broken, so where did this talk of uniting it come from," he asked.

Irani defeated former Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The yatra will enter Uttar Pradesh via Ghaziabad on January 3.

Uzbekistan Blames India-Made Syrup For Deaths, Centre Responds: 10 Facts

Uzbekistan Blames India-Made Syrup For Deaths, Centre Responds: 10 Facts
  1. The health ministry of Uzbekistan, in a statement, said that the children who died had consumed cough syrup Doc-1 Max - manufactured by Noida-based Marion Biotech. Laboratory tests found "the presence of ethylene glycol", a toxic substance. Doc-1 Max syrups have been withdrawn from all pharmacies,  Uzbekistan said.
  2. The Uzbek authorities have started legal action against some people, "including the local representative of the company there… we are extending necessary consular assistance to those individuals," said foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. Uzbekistan, he said, has not formally contacted the Indian government about the deaths.
  3. The syrup was apparently given to children at home without a doctor's prescription, on the advice of pharmacists, with doses that exceeded the standard dose for children. It was found that the children, before being hospitalised, took this syrup at home for 2-7 days, in doses of 2.5 to 5 ml three to four times a day, the ministry said. The deaths apparently took place over a period of two months.
  4. A joint inquiry is being conducted by the teams of Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO - north zone) and Uttar Pradesh Drugs Controlling and Licensing Authority. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said further action would be taken on basis of the inspection.
  5. Sources also said manufacturing company Marion Biotech has been asked to submit an undertaking that the cough syrup was not supplied in any part of India. Samples of other drugs it manufactures will be picked up for random testing.
  6. Marion Biotech said samples of the cough syrup have been collected from its manufacturing unit and that they are now waiting for the test report. "Our drugs are not at fault, we are waiting for the testing to be completed," said Hasan Harris, Legal Representative of Marion Biotech.
  7. Earlier this year, deaths of 70 children in Gambia were linked to cough syrups manufactured by Haryana-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals, following which, its unit was shut by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation for violation of manufacturing standards.
  8. After the World Health Organisation (WHO) had issued a statement over the deaths in Gambia, Drugs Controller General, VG Somani, earlier this month had said that tests on samples of Maiden's products at government laboratories had "been found to be complying with specifications" and no toxic substance was detected in them.
  9. "The onus in such a case lies with the importing country and the manufacturing company. When drugs are produced for exports, the standards of the country it is being exported to are followed," Rajesh Agarwal, the former director of National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority told NDTV.
  10. The issue has spiralled into a political controversy. "Modi Sarkar must stop boasting about India being a pharmacy to the world & take strictest action," Congress's Jairam Ramesh tweeted. "The death of children in Gambia had nothing to do with the consumption of cough syrup made in India. That has been clarified by the Gambian authorities and DCGI, both," shot back the BJP's Amit Malviya.

RBI Suggests Common Approach to Crypto Assets to Avoid Potential Financial Risks

RBI Suggests Common Approach to Crypto Assets to Avoid Potential Financial Risks

To address potential financial stability risks and protect investors, it is important to arrive at a common approach to crypto assets, the Financial Stability Report released by RBI said on Thursday.

In this context, various options are being considered internationally, it said.

One option is to apply the same-risk-same-regulatory-outcome principle and subject them to the same regulation applicable to traditional financial intermediaries and exchanges, the report said.

Another option is to prohibit crypto assets, since their real life use cases are next to negligible and the challenge is that different countries have different legal systems and individual rights vis-à-vis state powers, it noted.

A third option is to let it implode and make it systemically irrelevant as the underlying instability and riskiness will ultimately prevent the sector from growing, it said.

The third option, however, is fraught with risks as the sector may become more interconnected with mainstream finance and divert financing away from traditional finance with broader effect on the real economy, the report said.

Regulating new technology and business models after they have grown to a systemic level is challenging, it pointed out.

To promote responsible innovation and to mitigate financial stability risks in crypto ecosystem, the report said it is vital for policymakers to design an appropriate policy approach.

In this context, under India's G20 presidency, one of the priorities is to develop a framework for global regulation, including the possibility of prohibition, of unbacked crypto assets, stablecoins and decentralised finance (DeFi), it said.

The collapse and bankruptcy of the crypto exchange FTX and subsequent sell-off in the crypto assets market have highlighted the inherent vulnerabilities in the crypto ecosystem.

Recently, Binance, the largest crypto exchange, also prohibited withdrawals of stablecoins on its platform. The implosion of FTX was preceded by failure of TerraUSD/Luna, an algorithmic stablecoin, a run on Celsius, a crypto lender, and bankruptcy of Three Arrows Capital, a cryptocurrency hedge fund.

Observing that the turmoil has provided several insights, it said crypto assets are highly volatile.

The price of Bitcoin has tumbled by 74 percent (as on December 14, 2022) from its peak in November 2021. Other crypto assets have also experienced similar falls in prices and heightened volatility.

In addition, crypto assets exhibit high correlations with equities, it noted.

Furthermore, it said, contrary to claims that they are an alternative source of value due to inflation hedging benefits, crypto assets' value has fallen even as inflation rose.

Second, the report said, the collapse of TerraUSD/Luna is a reminder of how so-called stablecoins that promise to maintain a stable value relative to fiat currency are subject to classic confidence runs.

Finally, it said, the failure of FTX and Celsius reveals that crypto exchanges and trading platforms were carrying out different functions such as lending, brokerage, clearing and settlement that have different risks without appropriate governance structures.

This exposed them to credit, market and liquidity risks disproportionate to what was necessary to discharge their essential functions, it said, adding leverage is a constant theme across the crypto ecosystem, making failures rapid and losses huge and sudden.

"India's Roads Will Be Better Than Those In US": Nitin Gadkari

"India's Roads Will Be Better Than Those In US": Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said roads in India would be better than those in the United States of America by the end of 2024 under the Narendra Modi government.

He was speaking after inaugurating the first phase of a bridge on Zuari river, which is expected to improve connectivity between the North and South districts of Goa.

Asserting that road infrastructure was being created at a rapid pace in the country now, he said, "We have decided that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before the end of the year 2024, India's road infrastructure will be better than that of America."

The commissioning of the Manohar International Airport in Mopa earlier this month will pave the way for Goa to become the number one state in the country, he added.

Mr Gadkari also said his plans to start a water taxi system in Goa failed due to non-cooperation of the state's Captain of Ports office.

"The strength of Goa is in its ports and the plan was to connect ports with the airport by water taxi. Such a project would have saved Goa from pollution. The state, like water and air pollution, must also take care to curb sound pollution," he said.

Elaborating on his plans to reduce sound pollution, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways said he was contemplating the possibility of replacing the "blaring" sound of vehicle horns with soothing music.

Speaking about the new Zuari bridge, Mr Gadkari said it would have a revolving restaurant and viewers gallery on a tower.

"The state government had issued tenders for the project twice but could not get any response from bidders. I will help the state government on how to go ahead with this project," Mr Gadkari said.

Among those who were present for the bridge inauguration were Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Union Minister Shripad Naik.

Mr Gadkari also inaugurated the approach roads to the bridge from Bambolim to Verna villages.

As per the state government, this will be India's widest cable-stayed bridge when completed.

The bridge is part of a Rs 2,530 crore project covering a distance of 13.2 kilometres between Bambolim and Verna villages.

Constructor Dilip Buildcon Limited has said the entire the entire eight-lane project will be completed by April, 2023.

Russia To Achieve Ukraine Goals Thanks To "Patience": Foreign Minister

Russia To Achieve Ukraine Goals Thanks To "Patience": Foreign Minister

Russia's foreign minister said Wednesday he was convinced that Moscow would achieve its goals in Ukraine thanks to its "patience" and "perseverance".

"I am convinced that thanks to our perseverance, patience and determination, we will defend the noble goals that are vital for our people and our country," Russia's top diplomat Sergei Lavrov said in an interview broadcast on national television Wednesday.

He reiterated Moscow's stance that for talks to resume Kyiv should recognise the annexation by Russia of four Ukrainian regions.

"Our absolute priority is four new Russian regions," Lavrov said. "They should become free from the threat of Nazification that they have faced for many years."

Russia does not currently control the regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in full, and Lavrov confirmed that was Moscow's ultimate goal.

Lavrov said that while Moscow wanted the conflict to be over, Russia would take its time to achieve its goals on the battlefield.

"We are in no hurry," he said.

"We would like to end this war as soon as possible, which the West was preparing and, as a result, unleashed against us through Ukraine," he added.

"We are a patient people. We will protect our compatriots, citizens and lands that have been Russian for centuries."

Rajasthan Minister Blames BJP For Teacher Recruitment Exam Paper Leak

Rajasthan Minister Blames BJP For Teacher Recruitment Exam Paper Leak

Rajasthan Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of colluding with paper leak mafias and said that it was the state government's efforts behind the arrests made in connection to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) paper leak case.

"BJP is in cahoots with the paper-leak mafias. It was the Rajasthan government who arrested those who leaked the RPSC teachers' recruitment exam paper," the minister said while speaking to the media on the occasion of the 138th Foundation day of Congress.

Rajasthan Police have arrested 55 people including a government school headmaster in connection to the paper leak of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) teachers' recruitment examination.

The arrested women were sent to police remand for two days while the men were sent for five days after they were produced before the magistrate on Sunday.

According to the police, the 'mastermind' of the case has been identified as Suresh Vishnoi, a government school headmaster posted at a government school in Jalore district.

The Gehlot government was cornered by the opposition parties on the paper leak issue for the last few days as the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) cancelled the 2nd-grade teacher competitive examination 2022 for General Knowledge after the leak of paper and rescheduled it for January 29.

BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also took a swipe at the state government saying, the state is not fulfilling its responsibilities.

"In the last four years, 16 times exam papers have been leaked. Our demand for a CBI inquiry was ignored. Permission is not being given to CBI as the government knows that big names will be revealed. It's unfortunate that the Rajasthan government is not fulfilling its responsibilities," he said on Monday.

Union Jal Shakti Minister and Jodhpur BJP MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had on Sunday demanded a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the scam.

Amazon Working on Standalone App for Sports Content: Report

Amazon Working on Standalone App for Sports Content: Report

Amazon.com is working on a standalone app for watching sports content, the Information reported on Wednesday, citing a source with direct knowledge of the plan.

Sports remains one of the biggest attractions for live viewing as US audiences increasingly switch from pay TV subscriptions to streaming apps.

The move will likely complement Amazon's effort to double down on sports programming through its Prime Video service, a key channel to attract consumers to its shopping platform.

Amazon already owns the rights to stream games including National Football League's Thursday Night Football franchise and Premier League soccer matches in the UK, setting it up to better compete with sports streaming leader Walt Disney Co.

Last week, Alphabet unit YouTube also signed a multi-year deal to exclusively stream NFL's Sunday Ticket package of games in the United States.

It was not clear when Amazon would roll out the sports app and whether it would go through with the plan, according to the report.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The company has been reviewing unprofitable business units and has laid off some staff to cover rising costs and a demand downturn as inflation-wary consumers and businesses spend less.

In India, Amazon launched Prime Gaming for PC a few days back, giving users access to various free PC games every month. This is a subscription-based gaming service which can be availed along the Amazon Prime plan. In December 2022, Prime Gaming provides access to eight game titles.

To avail the Prime Gaming service in India, users can head to the Prime Gaming website by signing in with their credentials, and click on the Activate Prime Gaming button from the top right corner of the screen.

Watch: Railways Ministry Shares A Glimpse Of Revamped Train Coaches Adorned With Art

The Ministry of Railways on Tuesday shared a video showing a new set of revamped train coaches. The 'coach facelift' initiative has been undertaken by the Sealdah Division of the Eastern Railway in order to revamp the otherwise-dull train coaches and make them more vibrant. The video shows a coach of a local train operating in West Bengal, facelifted with colourful art and bright LED lights. The walls of the coach can be seen adorned with murals and paintings, portraying India's diverse culture.

Sharing the video, Indian Railways wrote, ''Uplifting your Travel Experience! A coach facelift initiative has been undertaken by the Sealdah Division of @EasternRailway, where coaches are being adorned with art. Catch a glimpse of a train that runs on the Sealdah-Bangaon section.''

Many users flocked to the comment section to appreciate the unique initiative and praised Indian Railways. One user wrote, ''Great initiative to showcase and save the rich Indian and especially regional culture in the form of art.I think trains on all local routes could be decorated like this and in other similar designs !!!'' Another said, ''Great initiative by team.''

However, not everyone was impressed with the art. Many found it unappealing and said that the Railways should focus more on improving its service and pay heed to problems faced by commuters.

A third user reacted to the video and wrote, ''Gaudy Awful Claustrophobic... Graffiti Artists do better JobsDo some Good Maintenance n Improve Services n Coach Quality instead.''

A fourth commented, ''Please!! Employ good and professional artists for this. Else leave it as is. This is not a facelift. Its a spoiler!!'' A fifth added, ''Painting uplifts the travel experience? A waste of money in my books.''
