Fraud Cases In Supreme Court Tend To Increase As Polls Near: Chief Justice

Fraud Cases In Supreme Court Tend To Increase As Polls Near: Chief Justice

The number of "fraud cases" in the Supreme Court tends to increase as elections draw closer and the court becomes a site for political engagement, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said on Thursday.

Speaking at the Constitution Day function organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Chandrachud said we all exist together and the Indian Constitution tells us that "we either survive or we perish together".

"But above all, I think it is important that on a day where we celebrate the Constitution, we learn to discharge our duties to the cause of justice. Our duty to the cause of justice ranks much higher than the success or failure in individual cases," he said.

"Just yesterday, I had to deal with a fraud case. The Supreme Court deals with fraud cases every day. Some courts have more than their share of fraud cases and there are some times as elections come, the number of fraud cases tends to increase in the court and we as judges realise it," the CJI said.

Constitution Day is celebrated across the country on November 26 every year.

Chief Justice Chandrachud said after elections get over, things settle down and "as the polls come closer and closer, the court becomes a site for political engagement. That is a truth of our society. I am not looking at it with any value judgement".

Chief Justice Chandrachud, who also addressed the gathering in Hindi for a few minutes, said freedom and the Constitution have an unbreakable relationship.

Speaking about the legal profession, the CJI said it is a profession of diversity, including diversity in terms of gender. He said be it the judges or lawyers, all have come from different parts of the country in search of a better livelihood.

"But in the process of giving each one of us a better livelihood, we are also engaged in providing a better existence to our fellow citizens. That is the big power which all of you command as lawyers," he said.

Referring to the attire of judges and lawyers, the CJI said it reminds us that the "similarity of our attire is a symbol of the common existence which we share". It was for the members of the Bar to make the legal profession broad-based and inclusive, Chief Justice Chandrachud said while highlighting the need to encourage young lawyers.

"And remember, ultimately, it is if you support the institution of justice, which is to ensure that you support the independence of your own judiciary, that the judiciary can truly be able to discharge its duties," he said.

"If you are not giving to the judiciary its own sense of due, how will you expect them to discharge their own obligations towards society. Because your judges come from you and they return to you. They are not distinct from you," he said.

He said members of the Bar are also here for the betterment of the profession, to serve the cause of justice and to ensure that the other side of the profession, the judges, who are duty bound to act in aid of justice, continue to do so.

"You have to not merely protect your judges, but you have to hold them to account as well," he said.

Sharing a story, Chief Justice Chandrachud said sometime back, one of his colleagues had an attack of dengue and there was a need for blood transfusion.

"But we drew on the credit of the blood which was given by our employees during the last blood donation camp…my colleague came back to normalcy very quickly by the blood transfusion," he said, adding this was again a reminder that all of us are bound together in this cycle of existence.

"None of us in that sense is different from the other. None of us stands alone," Chief Justice Chandrachud said.

"One Rocket Makes All This Go Away": Gazans Demand Complete Ceasefire

"One Rocket Makes All This Go Away": Gazans Demand Complete Ceasefire

Returning home to find their neighbourhood wrecked by bombs, residents of Abu Ta'imah on the outskirts of Gaza's Khan Younis said the Palestinian territory needed a permanent ceasefire, not just an extension of the truce between Israel and Hamas.

Local people fled the area on the eastern edge of the city at the start of the war and did not return until the truce, which was in its sixth day on Wednesday.

"We were shocked to see this destruction. We were shocked to see our homes, our streets, our lands, our yards and everything demolished," said Gihad Nabil, who was recently married and had been living in Abu Ta'imah with his wife.

Standing on a roof with a view of ruined buildings and mounds of rubble as far as the eye could see, he said the area had been home to about 5,000 or 6,000 people before the war. He asked where they would go.

"My house is completely destroyed. My brother's home, my uncle's my neighbour's, all of them destroyed. We don't need this truce, we need a complete ceasefire," he said, likening what he was seeing to an earthquake zone.

As Nabil and another man sat on the roof, talking and smoking a shisha pipe, a group of children down below sat around a small fire built on a pile of rubble and warmed up bread, which they shared.

Three of the children climbed onto the carcass of a car whose pockmarked blue metalwork looked like crumpled paper and posed for a Reuters camera, framed by twisted cables and jagged chunks of concrete.

Hamas, the Islamist group that runs Gaza, triggered the war on Oct. 7 when they rampaged through southern Israel, killing 1,200 people including babies and children and taking 240 hostages of all ages, according to Israel's tally.

Israel vowed to destroy Hamas and launched an assault on Gaza that has killed more than 15,000 people, four in 10 of them children, according to health officials there.

Gone In A Moment

The war has displaced 80% of Gazans from their homes, according to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who on Wednesday described the situation as an epic humanitarian catastrophe.

Abdelrahman Abu Ta'imah, a member of the clan that gave the area its name, searched through his bombed-out apartment, pulling clothes and a pink mattress from the debris.

"I have been struggling and working for 30 years in this country," he said, adding that even before the war life was hard because of the blockade imposed on Gaza by Israel and Egypt since 2007, when Hamas took control of the enclave.

"Money doesn't come easy, then all of a sudden, all the work and effort of 30 years disappeared in a moment. One rocket makes all this goes away. Why is that?" he asked.

From the start of its attack, Israel told Palestinians living in northern Gaza to move to the southern part of the strip, which includes Khan Younis and its environs.

However, Israeli forces have also pounded the south, though less intensively than the north. Israel says it targets Hamas infrastructure, and accuses Hamas of putting civilians in harm's way by using them as human shields.

Diplomatic efforts were underway on Wednesday to prolong the truce, which has allowed more aid trucks to enter Gaza and some Israeli and foreign hostages to be released, as well as some Palestinian detainees to be freed from Israeli prisons.

But Abu Ta'imah said a short truce was not enough and he longed for a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"Ever since we were born, we've been enduring wars and destruction. Every time we rebuild, there comes a fiercer war than the one before," he said.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Do The Flagship Specs Deliver?

Samsung's FE series has always been a fan favourite since the first Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was released with almost flagship-level specs and a price that sits right between the highest-end A Series smartphone and the entry-level S Series smartphone. This year, Samsung launched two FE devices, the refreshed S21 FE with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 and the new Samsung Galaxy S23 FE with Exynos 2200 SoC and a lot of the features that might make the smartphone look like a flagship on paper. Does the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S23 FE deliver on the brand's promise when they introduced the first ‘Fan Edition' smartphone, and should you buy it at a starting price of Rs. 59,999? Let's find out in this detailed Samsung Galaxy S23 FE review.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE price in India

I've been using the base variant for the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in the Mint colour option, which is priced at Rs. 59,999. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is available in a higher-end 256GB storage variant as well, with the same amount of RAM, that is 8GB for Rs. 64,999, which makes this smartphone come very close to the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S23 that comes equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The smartphone can be bought in two more colour options: Graphite and Purple. The brand has also launched two special edition colour options for this smartphone, Indigo and Tangerine, which can only be bought through their official website. The 256GB storage variant is a good addition, but a higher-end variant with more RAM would've been better and justified the price more.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Design

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE sports a design that might be familiar to many people. It uses the same design language as the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Samsung Galaxy A54, with matte-finished aluminium side rails, volume rockers and a power key that is very responsive and tactile, as a flagship smartphone should. The smartphone uses a dual nano sim card slot with an option to either use one physical and an E-Sim or two physical SIM cards at the same time. It does not come with expandable storage, which is slightly disappointing. It comes equipped with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port and stereo speakers that are decently loud. The smartphone comes equipped with Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the display and the back panel with a glossy finish instead of the matte finish that the Samsung Galaxy S23 sports.

S23 FE design S23 FE design

The smartphone sports Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as on the back.

This makes the smartphone prone to fingerprints and smudges a lot. At 8.22mm thick, the smartphone feels a little thicker than your usual smartphone, and 209 grams of weight puts it on the heavier side. It is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, which is a plus. I had the smartphone with me for a decent amount of time and used it without a case. After only a few days, I started noticing scuffs and scratches on the display glass, protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5. The smartphone is a little slippery without the case. Despite the thicker chassis and higher weight, the smartphone still carries the premium look and feel that Samsung flagships are known for.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Display

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE sports a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution. The display itself is impressive, no matter if I talk about the colours that it produces or the sharpness. I didn't have any complaints on that front, but the bezels are particularly thick for a smartphone that costs more than 50K and is marketed as an entry-level flagship by the manufacturer. I'd be lying if I said it disappears after you immerse yourself in content; it doesn't and stares right in your face.

S23 FE display S23 FE display

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE features a flat display

It is HDR10+ certified and supports a peak brightness of up to 1450 nits, which feels super bright indoors and outdoors. I did not see much discolouration on the display while using the smartphone in harsh sunlight. The smartphone lets you choose between a standard 60Hz refresh or an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz. It feels smooth across the board while scrolling through the UI and apps or gaming.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Camera

It sports a triple-rear camera setup that includes the primary 50-megapixel camera with an f1.8 aperture with a 24mm focal range that comes equipped with OIS, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that provides 3x optical zoom with f2.4 aperture and a 75mm focal range with OIS and lastly a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f2.2 aperture.

S23 FE Camera module S23 FE Camera module

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE features the signature Galaxy design language

The smartphone does a pretty good job when focusing on moving subjects, thanks to the inclusion of PDAF for the primary as well as the telephoto camera. Daylight shots from the primary camera came out pretty well; it produced plenty of sharp images from corner to corner and had good details in the shadows and the highlight.

Bokeh without the portrait mode looks very pleasing, and to my surprise, this Samsung smartphone didn't overdo with saturation levels. The telephoto camera also maintained the same saturation levels but produced slightly softer images.

This smartphone's ultrawide camera maintains the colour scheme like the two other rear cameras, but the images tend to distort a lot on the corners, which could be fixed with a future software update.

The smartphone has a 10-megapixel camera for selfies, which clicks pretty detailed images in daylight.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE also has a good camera system for nighttime shots. The images take longer to shoot, but OIS helps the user with it, and the shots you get look pretty good. I did notice some noise in the ultrawide shots.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE nighttime camera samples (tap to see full size)

It uses a 10-megapixel camera with f2.4 for selfies that does an excellent job with daylight, nighttime and portrait shots. It maintains the colour scheme as the other cameras on board, and you will notice that there is some post-processing happening in the background after you click, as it takes a second to show the final image.

The smartphone can shoot up to 8K 24fps with the primary camera; this is a feature that you do not see very often on a smartphone in this price range. I shot multiple handheld 8K videos using this smartphone, and I was impressed with the results I got. The videos were stabilised, had plenty of details and had plenty of dynamic range to play around with if you ever want to edit these videos. It can shoot 4K 60fps videos as well. The front camera, too, can shoot videos at up to 4K 60fps, which is pretty good for content creators.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Battery and Charging

The 4500mAh battery does a decent job for a light usage day, but as soon as you include gaming and video streaming, with a high refresh rate turned on, the smartphone does not last very long. The Samsung S23 FE lasted 16 hours and 25 minutes in our battery loop test. Considering Samsung does not provide a charger inside the retail package, support for charging would have been appreciated, as 25W charging support is way too slow for 2023. In our testing, the smartphone charged up to 25% in 30 minutes and 65% in an hour, which is way too slow compared to the competition in this price range.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Performance

Samsung S23 FE uses Samsung's Exynos 2200 4nm SoC in India and not Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that the consumers in the US are getting, which is a bummer, at least on paper. We ran all the required benchmarks on the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, and the results were pretty good. It scored 1,174,800 on AnTuTu v.10.0.10, 1130 single core and 3232 for GeekBench 6. I played Call of Duty & Real Racing 3, which ran just fine with high graphic settings.

S23 FE gameplay S23 FE gameplay

The smartphone features the 4nm Exynos 2200 SoC

The frames didn't drop a lot, and the gameplay was smooth. The smartphone did get a little warm after each gaming session. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE runs OneUI 5.1 out of the box, which is based on Android 13, and it offers a pretty smooth user experience and does not have a lot of pre-installed apps.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Review: Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a smartphone focused on consumers who wish to get the flagship experience but do not want to spend on something like a Samsung Galaxy S23 or S23+. This one lives up to the FE legacy with flagship-level cameras, a good display, decent battery life and a great processor for almost anything you want to do with this smartphone. All this combined does deliver a premium experience, only if you can live with thicker bezels on a smartphone that costs more than 50K in 2023. Considering this smartphone does not have expandable storage, the base 128GB storage variant might not be sufficient for most people and buying the 256GB variant puts this smartphone in the sub 65K price category, which is already very saturated with the likes of OnePlus 11 (Review) with better performance and modern looking curved display.

How Border Roads Organisation Aided The Himalayan Rescue Op

How Border Roads Organisation Aided The Himalayan Rescue Op

The much-awaited breakthrough and the rescue of the 41 workers trapped in the Silkiyara Tunnel since November 12 has moved the focus back on the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) - the resilient force behind the Himalayan operation.

The Silkiyara Tunnel, which is being built by the NHIDCL on the Yamunotri National Highway connecting Silkiyara to Barkot, collapsed between chainage 206 m at the Silkiyara end and spread to chainage 260 m towards the Barkot end. "Soon after the collapse, the BRO was mobilised to assist the central and the state government agencies in the rescue. Project Shivalik of BRO was employed to assist in various tasks in support of the rescue operations," the BRO said in a statement.

This 4531 m long tunnel will shorten the road distance by 26 Km & 45 minutes of travel time. The tunnel is designed as a single tube tunnel with two lanes divided by a vertical partition wall. The tunnel is being constructed in extremely weak rock mass constituting meta-siltstone and phyllites. The 15 m diameter of the tunnel makes its construction technically intricate.

The BRO was made the nodal agency to coordinate with several agencies, including the Army, the NDRF, the SDRF, and the ONGC among others, involved in the rescue operations.

Given its tunneling experience, the BRO was also instrumental in giving valuable inputs when rescue options were being evaluated.

"The BRO was immediately involved in the planning and execution of the side draft near the site. The BRO coordinated the American Auger Machine's movement from Delhi to Dehradun and to the site at Silkiyara and ensured it was functional at the site by November 15. Since then, the BRO has been coordinating the move of equipment like drill machines, pipes of various sizes, etc by coordinating and interacting with the Air Force, the civil aviation ministry, and various central and state government agencies," the statement read.

The American Auger Machine progressed 47 m across the collapsed zone and got stuck on November 24. The BRO sprung into action and moved the plasma-cutting machine from the DRDO in Hyderabad to the site.

"In addition, four more options were being considered to increase the probability of successful rescue operations. The first approach was a vertical drill of 1.2 m diameter planned from the top of the hill by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. A drill hole was planned at chainage 306 m from the Silkiyara end. For this, the BRO was asked to recce and provide an 1150m approach road to the drilling site.

"In another option, ONGC planned a vertical drill from the Barkot end for which the equipment was mobilised. For this approach, the BRO was asked to provide a track up to the drilling site," it added.

Given the involvement of a large number of agencies, the BRO was tasked with coordinating with 12 Air Force stations, Airports Authority of India, DRDO, ONGC, NTRO, CISF, Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority and state civil administration and police to provide a green route.

The organisation also helped with moving the critical technical manpower for the rescue ops. This included the critical welders who were moved in a night operation to the site.

All 41 men trapped underground in a tunnel in Uttarakhand's Silkyara were rescued late Tuesday, ending a frantic 17-day multi-agency op that relied, in the final stretch, on the banned manual "rat-hole"-mining technique employed after high-tech machines, or augers, failed to drill through the nearly 60 metres of rock that threatened to bury the workers.

11 Killed As Elevator Plunges Out Of Control At South Africa Mine

11 Killed As Elevator Plunges Out Of Control At South Africa Mine

An elevator carrying workers to the surface at a giant South African platinum mine plunged out of control killing 11 and injuring 75, the mine operators said Tuesday.

Impala Platinum said the "devastating accident" happened on Monday at its Rustenburg mine, northwest of Johannesburg, as more than 80 employees were leaving a shaft at the end of their shift.

The alert was raised shortly before 5:00pm (1500 GMT) as the lift "unexpectedly started descending", according to the company.

"Its rapid descent was stopped by the conveyance counterweight becoming trapped by the jack catches," it said in a statement.

Jack catches are safety systems intended to stop lifts and underground trains from rolling back in case of an accident.

"Our hearts are heavy for the lives lost and the individuals affected by this devastating accident," Impala Platinum's (Implats) CEO, Nico Muller, said in a statement.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our colleagues and are in the process of ensuring all next of family have been contacted".

The company said 75 workers were injured and were transferred to local hospitals and admitted for treatment.

Implats spokesman Johan Theron told AFP some were severely injured, most suffered from ankle and leg fractures, and others walked out with minor scratches.

Rescue operations had been completed and all the 86 employees involved were accounted for, it added.

'Incredibly difficult time'

Implats said all operations at the mine were suspended on Tuesday, as an investigation into the accident went ahead.

"Implats is offering ongoing support to the families and colleagues of those lost in service," said Miller. "We also hold our injured colleagues in our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time."

South Africa is the world's leading producer of platinum.

Mine accidents are common in South Africa, where hundreds of thousands work in the industry.

South Africa has the world's deepest mines and is a major exporter of gold, diamonds, coal and other raw materials.

Many of the deep mines have lifts that can carry more than 100 people at a time.

Dozens of mineworkers are killed each year, though numbers have been falling as safety standards have been stepped up over the past two decades.

There were about 50 mining deaths in 2022, according to government statistics.

Several mine workers were killed at the same Rustenburg Implats mine in 2021, after a mudslide hit one of the shafts.

More than 430 coal miners were killed in the Coalbrook disaster in 1960.

Iceland Trip Turned Into A Chaotic Mess, Travel Blogger Shares Experience

Iceland Trip Turned Into A Chaotic Mess, Travel Blogger Shares Experience

A Canadian travel blogger shares her cautionary story of a disastrous Iceland trip, emphasising the importance of wisely selecting travel companions. Amy, initially hesitant to travel solo, invited various individuals but faced compatibility issues, turning the journey into a disaster.

"Eventually, the only person who was available was a girl I worked with at a restaurant," she wrote on Instagram this week. "We were acquaintances and work pals, but not exactly besties."

Amy recounted a harrowing experience during her initial night in Iceland when her travel partner was arrested by six or seven police officers at their hostel. Adding to the chaos, the woman attempted to assault Amy, physically striking the hostel receptionist and consequently being expelled.

Subsequently, Amy chose to navigate the rest of her journey alone, necessitating a complete restructuring of her plans to evade the troubled companion.

Despite these challenges, she forged new friendships at the hostel, enabling her to enjoy the beauty of Iceland. Amy witnessed the northern lights, participated in group hikes, explored waterfalls and geysers, and traversed the renowned Golden Circle scenic route.

"I had to completely rearrange my plans to avoid her," she said.

"I realized you need to be careful with who you travel with, and sometimes the best people to travel with are complete strangers from your hostels," she said.

"They made my experience and gave me the confidence to travel on my own after that."

Arab States, EU Agree Two-State Solution Answer To Israel-Hamas War

Arab States, EU Agree Two-State Solution Answer To Israel-Hamas War

Arab states and the European Union agreed at a meeting in Spain on Monday that a two-state solution was the answer to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell saying the Palestinian Authority should rule Gaza.

Borrell said all EU members attending the meeting of Mediterranean nations in Barcelona and almost all attendees overall had agreed on the need for a two-state solution.

The Palestinian Authority must hold elections and improve its functioning but is the only "viable solution" to the future leadership of Gaza, currently run by Hamas Islamists, to avoid a "power vacuum", he said.

A current four-day truce is the first halt in fighting in the seven weeks since Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostages back into Gaza, according to Israeli tallies.

In response to that attack, Israel bombarded the enclave and mounted a ground offensive in the north. Some 14,800 Palestinians have been killed, Gaza health authorities say, and hundreds of thousands displaced.

Hamas said it wanted to extend the truce. An Israeli official told Reuters the onus was on Hamas to produce a new list of 10 hostages it could free on Tuesday in exchange for that becoming an additional truce day.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the Palestinian people should decide who rules them, and that any talk of administration of Gaza after the conflict should focus on the West Bank and Gaza as one entity.

A two-state solution envisages a state for the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip alongside Israel.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said the Palestinian Authority, which lost control of the Gaza Strip in a 2007 power struggle with Hamas, had no need to return to Gaza, adding: "We have been there all the time, we have 60,000 public workers there."

The three were speaking at the conclusion of a short meeting of the Forum for the Union of the Mediterranean in Barcelona, a 43-member grouping of European, North African and Middle Eastern countries.

Israel did not attend the summit. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke as a representative of a group of ministers from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Borrell said he hoped the truce that began on Friday would last "a few more days".

Palestinian Foreign Minister al-Maliki said Qatar, Egypt, the United States, and the European Union were working to extend the truce, warning if it was not extended, the death count would double because Gaza's population was now concentrated in the south of the strip.

"We have an opportunity today that will end tonight, to extend the ceasefire... I count on the support of my colleagues... for us to all leave here with a loud and strong voice that can be heard in all parts of the world: no to the war, yes to the ceasefire," he said.

Jordan's Safadi added, however: "Some among us are still refusing to call for a ceasefire... We demand it be implemented immediately."

Elon Musk's AI Chatbot Calls Him "Overrated", Billionaire Says "Accurate"

Elon Musk's AI Chatbot Calls Him "Overrated", Billionaire Says "Accurate"

Elon Musk recently unveiled his own artificial intelligence chatbot called Grok. It is the first product of Mr Musk's xAI company and it is trained using real-time data from the X platform. Recently, a user asked the chatbot to roast the billionaire with one word. To their amusement, the AI bot described Mr Musk as "overrated". This caught the attention of the Tesla Chief and he responded to the post saying that Grok is "accurate".

Tesla Owners Silicon Valley took to X, formerly Twitter, and shared a screenshot of their chat with the bot. "Grok roasts Elon Musk in one word : Overrated," reads the caption of the post. The account also added a laughing emoji with it.

Since being shared, the post has amassed 80,000 views and 943 likes.

"Love Elon's humor," said a user.

"Grok is good," added a person.

A third person remarked, "Grok can be cruel sometimes."

"Interesting perspective! It's always fascinating to see different opinions on someone as prominent as Elon Musk," added a user.

Another added, "And this was the last thing Grok said, before being formatted."

A few days ago, a post by an X user about using the AI chatbot to understand a tweet shared by Elon Musk also caught the attention of the billionaire. In the post, the user, Kris Kashtanova, explained about using Grok to decode a tweet that Mr Musk posted a few days ago.

"Thanks to Grok we'll understand Elon Musk's post better," Kashtanova wrote while sharing a screenshot of the interaction between her and Grok. The X user used a tweet by Mr Musk about corporate culture as a prompt for the AI chatbot. In response, Grok then came up with a detailed explanation of what the tweet meant. Mr Musk reshared the entire post along with a bullseye emoji.

Meanwhile, Grok is currently available for a limited audience. Earlier this month, Mr Musk, the tycoon behind SpaceX, revealed details about the AI tool. He said the link-up with X is "a massive advantage over other models" of generative AI. Grok "loves sarcasm. I have no idea who could have guided it this way," the billionaire quipped, adding a laughing emoji to his post.

"Grok" comes from "Stranger in a Strange Land," a 1961 science fiction novel by Robert Heinlein, and means to understand something thoroughly and intuitively.

"You Have Violated...": Poll Body Issues Notice To Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao

The Election Commission on Saturday issued a notice to ruling BRS working president and IT Minister K T Rama Rao for allegedly visiting a government institution here and using the platform for political activities and sought a reply from him by Sunday afternoon.

The EC in its notice said it had received a complaint from Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, wherein it was alleged that Rama Rao, a star campaigner for BRS visited the office of 'T-works' and interacted with a large number of youth employed in the office on November 20.

The Commission obtained a factual report on the matter from the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

Referring to the provisions of MCC that the ministers shall not combine their official visit with electioneering work and shall not also make use of official machinery or personnel, the Commission in its notice observed that, Rama Rao, is not only a contesting candidate in the upcoming assembly election but also a start campaigner of the BRS.

"Whereas, the Commission is, prima facie, held that that by visiting to a Government Institution and using the platform of T-works for political activities and combining your official visit with political/private visit, you have violated the instruction of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC)," the Commission said in its notice.

The Commission asked Rama Rao to explain his stand in respect of the visit and use of a Government Institute for political purposes by 3 PM on November 26.

In the event of no response from Rama Rao's side within the stipulated time, it will be presumed that he had nothing to say in the matter and that the EC will take appropriate action or decision in the matter without making any further reference to him.

Delhi Air Quality 'Severe' Again As Temperature Dips, Relief Likely Next Week

Delhi Air Quality 'Severe' Again As Temperature Dips, Relief Likely Next Week

Air quality in Delhi turned 'severe' again on Friday with a dip in temperatures and slow wind speed at night allowing accumulation of pollutants.

The city's air quality index (AQI) that stood at 401 at 8 am had worsened to 415 by 4 pm.

A scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a brief relief due to a likely improvement in meteorological conditions under the influence of a western disturbance expected to affect northwest India starting November 27.

Delhi has been witnessing a gradual increase in AQI levels after a marginal improvement on Sunday.

The 24-hour average AQI, recorded at 4 pm every day, was 390 on Thursday, 394 on Wednesday, 365 on Tuesday, 348 on Monday and 301 on Sunday.

The rise in the AQI levels comes after the Centre on Saturday removed stringent curbs, including a ban on construction work related to linear projects and the entry of polluting trucks in Delhi, following a drop in pollution levels due to a favourable wind speed and direction.

Neighbouring Ghaziabad (401), Gurugram (335), Greater Noida (365), Noida (367) and Faridabad (415) also recorded 'very poor' to 'severe' air quality.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor' , 301 and 400 'very poor', 401 and 450 'severe' and above 450 'severe-plus'.

According to the air quality early warning system developed by the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, pollution levels are likely to oscillate in the 'very poor' to 'severe' categories in the next few days.

Data from a joint project by the Delhi government and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, revealed that vehicular emissions accounted for about 38 per cent of the capital's air pollution on Thursday.

Secondary inorganic aerosols -- particles such as sulfate and nitrate that are formed in the atmosphere due to the interaction of gases and particulate pollutants from sources like power plants, refineries and vehicles -- are the second major contributor to Delhi's foul air, accounting for 25 to 35 per cent of the air pollution in the city over the last few days.

Biomass burning, including post-harvest paddy straw burning in neighbouring states, contributed 21 per cent to the capital's air pollution the previous day.

Trapped Workers' Rescue May Take "Few Hours Or Till Tomorrow": Official

Trapped Workers' Rescue May Take "Few Hours Or Till Tomorrow": Official

National Disaster Management Authority on Thursday said there could be a "success" in bringing out 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand in the next few hours or by Friday.

Briefing media about the ongoing rescue operations, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) member Lt Gen (retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, also added that it would not be fair to speculate on the timeline for rescue operations as it is just like fighting a war.

He also said that rescue work had stopped and is likely to start again shortly.

The NDMA member also said that the horizontal drilling to rescue workers may face 3-4 more hurdles.

He further said that 41 ambulances, one each for trapped workers, are in place at the tunnel site, and also facilities are in place to airlift workers in serious condition.

The men have been trapped for 11 days after a portion of the under-construction tunnel on the Uttarakhand Char Dham route collapsed, cutting off its exit.

Rescue operations to evacuate the workers resumed on Thursday morning after an overnight hurdle delayed the drilling by several hours.

Maharashtra Man Dies By Suicide, Note Mentions Maratha Quota Issue: Cops

Maharashtra Man Dies By Suicide, Note Mentions Maratha Quota Issue: Cops

A 24-year-old man allegedly ended life in Maharashtra's Latur district on Wednesday morning over the Maratha quota issue, police said.

Kiran Yuvraj Solunkhe, resident of Sawangira village in Nilanga tehsil, allegedly hanged himself from a tree in the family's sugarcane field around 9 am, said a police official.

A note found in his pocket said he was ending life because the Maratha community was not getting reservation, the official said.

Kiran Yuvraj Solunkhe was a commerce graduate and had taken part in the Maratha quota agitation, he added.

The agitation was revived recently with the hunger strikes of activist Manoj Jarange.

Kiran Yuvraj Solunkhe is survived by parents, a brother and two sisters, said inspector B R Shejal, the investigating officer.

Villagers refused to take possession of the body after autopsy, demanding that the administration give a written assurance of financial assistance for the Solunkhe's family and a government job for one of the family members.

After the administration assured to consider the demands, the last rites were performed.

Manoj Jarange has set the deadline of December 24 for the Maharashtra government to take steps for granting reservation to the Maratha community.

Kerala Doctors' Innovative Procedure Saves Patient With Brain Disease

Kerala Doctors' Innovative Procedure Saves Patient With Brain Disease

A 67-year-old patient from Tamil Nadu, suffering from brain aneurysm, has been miraculously saved by a team of doctors at Kerala' KIMSHEALTH hospital in Trivandrum, by performing a complicated procedure. For the first time ever in India, brain aneurysm has been treated with Intrasaccular flow diversion' treatment, using the 'Trenza' device.

Brain aneurysms are balloon-like bulges in blood vessels in the brain. The condition can sometimes lead to brain hemorrhage.

The patient was experiencing persistent headache for the past one year. After MRI and Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), it was revealed that he had a middle cerebral artery (MCA) bifurcation aneurysm on the left side. The doctors decided to perform the 'flow diversion' technique after considering the patient's condition and the location of the aneurysm.

According to KIMSHEALTH, during the procedure, a puncture was made in the groin area, and the Trenza device was deployed into the aneurysm through a microcatheter. Trenza functions like a flow disruptor and the blood flow gets diverted and stasis.

According to Dr Santhosh Joseph, who led the procedure, the patient has recovered and is fit to be discharged.

"Intrasaccular flow diversion using Trenza is safer, as it is more precise and easier to handle," said Dr. Santhosh Joseph. He also said it is easy to deploy Trenza in treating large and complex aneurysms in certain critical areas of the brain and is also recommended for cerebral artery bifurcation.

Along with Dr Santosh Joseph, Dr Manish Kumar Yadav, Dr Dinesh Babu and Dr Jayanth R Sheshan were part of this procedure.

Found Incriminating Papers Against Telangana Congress Leader: Probe Agency

Found Incriminating Papers Against Telangana Congress Leader: Probe Agency

Incriminating documents indicating "suspicious and unaccounted" transactions worth several crores of rupees were seized after searches were conducted against Congress candidate from Telangana's Chennur seat Vivek Venkatswamy, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleged on Wednesday.

The raids were launched under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) on Tuesday at four locations, including the politician's residences in Hyderabad, office premises of his company Visaka Industries Ltd. in Hyderabad and that of Vigilance Security Services Pvt. Ltd. in Ramagundam, and his temporary place of residence at Hitech City in Mancherial district where he was present, the federal probe agency said in a statement.

With declared assets of more than Rs 600 crore, the 65-year-old former MP is the richest politician contesting the assembly polls in Telangana. The 119 assembly seats of the state will go to polls on November 30.

The former MP, early this month, had resigned from the BJP and joined the Congress in the presence of party leader Rahul Gandhi in Hyderabad. He had earlier been in the Congress from where he moved to the BRS of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and then to the BJP.

The ED raids were triggered on the basis of a reference received from the Telangana Police to investigate a transaction of Rs 8 crore from the bank account of Vivek, also known as Dr Gaddam Vivekanand, to the company -- Vigilance Security.

The bank account of Vigilance Security was being used to "circuitously" transfer money with no real business rationale and Vivek, his wife and their company Visaka Industries had transactions of more than Rs 100 crore with Vigilance Security, the ED alleged.

Search operations resulted in the seizure of "digital devices, incriminating documents indicating suspicious and unaccounted transactions worth several crores as well as use of unaccounted cash in property deals," the ED said.  Seized documents also revealed large scale inter-corporate deposits within group companies having no legitimate business but holding huge land assets, it charged.

Searches also confirmed the "bogus" nature of Vigilance Security Services Pvt. Ltd. which was found non-existent at its declared addresses, the agency said.

The entity (Vigilance Security) declared a mere Rs 20 lakh as "revenue from operations" in its latest balance sheet whereas it reported assets worth Rs 64 crore mainly in the nature of long-term loans and advances, it said.

Since inception, the agency added, credit and debit transactions in the company's impugned bank account was found to be more than Rs 200 crore. Investigation found "indirect" control of Vivek over Vigilance Security, the agency said.

It said prima facie, FEMA contraventions have been detected against Vigilance Security Services Pvt. Ltd. and its parent company Yeshwant Realtors, whose majority shares are held by a foreign national.

Such prima facie violations were also noticed in the incorporation of an entity by Vivek in a foreign tax-haven country, the ED alleged.

Vivek and his wife own movable assets valued at Rs 377 crore, mostly shares in various companies, including his own Visaka Industries, which was founded in 1981.

The family's immovable assets stood at over Rs 225 crore.

UN Chief Calls For "Multi-Stakeholder Approach" To Solve Gaza Conflict

UN Chief Calls For "Multi-Stakeholder Approach" To Solve Gaza Conflict

A UN protectorate in Gaza would not solve the conflict there, the body's Secretary-General said Monday, calling instead for a "transition period" involving Arab nations and the United States and leading to a two-state solution.

Antonio Guterres said it was "important to be able to transform this tragedy into an opportunity" -- which, for him, meant moving "in a determined and irreversible way to a two-state solution."

This means, after the current war between Israel and Hamas fighters in Gaza ends, "a strengthened Palestinian Authority, assuming responsibilities in Gaza," he said.

But the Palestinian Authority cannot go into Gaza backed by Israeli tanks, he added -- meaning the "international community needs to look into a transition period."

"I do not think that a UN protectorate in Gaza is a solution," however, Guterres said.

Instead, he called for a "multi-stakeholder approach" that would see the US act as the "main guarantor" of Israel's security, while Arab nations are "essential" to support Palestinians.

"Everybody needs to come together to create the conditions for the transition, allowing for a strengthened Palestinian Authority to assume responsibilities in Gaza," and from there to a two-state solution, he said.

Guterres also again denounced the killing of civilians -- especially children -- in Gaza as Israel wages a relentless air and ground campaign in retaliation for the October 7 attacks by Hamas.

For seven years now he has published a "list of shame" of parties to armed conflict who commit grave violations against children. Israel's absence from the list has previously been criticized by human rights organizations.

Without saying whether that may change this year, Guterres put the number of children killed in Gaza into stark context.

In the "shame" reports, the highest number of children killed in one year by one actor was the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2017-2018, followed by the Syrian government and its allies before 2020. Both times the tally was in the hundreds.

"Without entering into discussing the accuracy of the numbers that were published by de facto authorities in Gaza, what is clear is that we have had in a few weeks thousands of children killed," Guterres told reporters.

"We are witnessing a killing of civilians that is unparalleled and unprecedented in any conflict since I am Secretary-General."

"Will Adopt His Family": Digvijaya Singh On Congress Worker Killed In Clash

"Will Adopt His Family": Digvijaya Singh On Congress Worker Killed In Clash

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh has met with the family members of a Congress worker, who died after a BJP candidate's vehicle allegedly ran over him in the state's Chhatarpur area.

Digvijaya Singh said that he would adopt the entire family of the Congress worker.

Mr Singh made the remark while talking to the reporter after meeting the family members on Saturday. The  Congress worker was identified as Salman Khan (40).

"The BJP workers had gone out to distribute money the night before yesterday. People who have earned crores of rupees by doing illegal business think that they would buy the voters by giving them money. As a precaution, Congress candidate Vikram Singh Nati Raja when he came to know that the money was being distributed, he reached there. There was no issue but there were animals sitting on the road, he (the Congress candidate) parked the car on the side to give way to the accused but they, including the BJP candidate Arvind Pateria, all came out of the vehicle and started abusing," Mr Singh said.

After that when the Congress candidate asked them to leave, they (BJP workers) did not do so and ran the vehicle over them in which Salman was killed, he added.

Mr Singh also said, "Congress is with the family and we will adopt the entire family. I have been demanding since yesterday from the SP and the collector that when a case of murder has been registered then no arrest has been made till now. The accused are coming to vote, yet they have not been caught to date. If it had been anyone else, their houses would have been demolished. I am with the victim's family, was there yesterday also and will be there in future also."

He added that the accused should be arrested soon. There is the only son left in the family and a government job should be given to him, he said.

"I am with the family and am here till the demand of the family will not be met," Mr Singh added.

Notably, the police registered a case against the BJP candidate Arvind Pateriya and his supporters in connection with the killing of a Congress worker in Chhatarpur district on Friday.

According to the FIR, the case was registered under IPC sections 302, 307, 147, 149, 294 and 506 at Khajuraho police station in the district. BJP candidate Pateriya was in the fray from Rajnagar assembly seat in the district. The FIR was registered following the complaint of Congress candidate from the seat Vikram Singh Nati Raja.

Superintendent of Police (SP, Chhatarpur) Amit Sanghi had said, "In a dispute that took place last night, an application was given to Khajuraho police station by the representative of a political party, under which an FIR has been registered against 20 people under various section and investigation into the matter is underway."

"Red Diary" Contains Ashok Gehlot's "Kacha Chitta": Amit Shah

"Red Diary" Contains Ashok Gehlot's "Kacha Chitta": Amit Shah

In the run-up to the November 25 assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit out at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, saying that the 'Laal Diary' contains Ashok Gehlot's ''Kacha Chitta', pointing to the rough draft of all calculations about the alleged scams that took place in the state under his watch.

"'Laal Diary' has Ashok Gehlot's 'Kacha Chitta'. It has all calculations of corruption worth thousands of crores," Amit Shah said while campaigning in Rajasthan's Bijainagar on Friday.

The Red Diary has become one of the most talked-about political accusations ever since sacked Rajasthan Minister Rajendra Gudha claimed that it contained information about financial transactions involving the Chief Minister.

Taking a jibe at the incumbent Chief Minister, Amit Shah advised some youths present at the public meeting not to wear 'red' clothes to Ashok Gehlot's campaign.

"Some youths have come here wearing red shirts and jerseys. It is okay that you have come to my public meeting. But don't go to Gehlot's meeting. Just like the bulls run seeing red, Gehlot will also...Do you know why? What is in the 'Laal Diary'?" Amit Shah asked.

The Union Home Minister said that Ashok Gehlot has indulged in so much corruption in these five years that the total proceeds of those scams, amount to more than those done by all the state governments in Rajasthan since independence.

"Gehlot has indulged in so much corruption in these five years that it amounts to more than those done by all the governments in Rajasthan since Independence," Amit Shah said.

Listing out the scams done by the Gehlot government, he said, "Whether it is in the Mining department, for giving mining pattas, Udaisagar Jheel, Pratapgarh Limestone mining...Even from their secretariats, in the offices of the secretaries, Rs 2 crore and some kilogrammes of gold were found in their cupboards."

Continuing his attack against the Gehlot government, Amit Shah said, "For five years, you've seen the Congress government. In these five years, if Congress has done anything big, it is corruption."

Appealing to people to vote for the "double engine" government in the state, Amit Shah said, "When you cast your vote for the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha elections, do not think that you are voting to elect an MLA or BJP. But your vote is for Rajasthan and the country to prosper, to bring about a double-engine government in Rajasthan under the leadership of Narendra Modi."

Rajasthan is set to undergo assembly polls on November 25 and the counting of votes will be done on December 3. The BJP won 163 seats in the 2013 Legislative Assembly elections and formed the government in Rajasthan.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP won 73 seats in the 200-member House. Ashok Gehlot eventually took the oath as Chief Minister with the support of BSP MLAs and Independents.

"Not Trying To Decouple From China But...": Biden Ahead Of Talks With Xi Jinping

"Not Trying To Decouple From China But...": Biden Ahead Of Talks With Xi Jinping

President Joe Biden said Tuesday that the United States was not seeking to distance itself from China but in fact wanted an improved relationship, as he prepared for a highly anticipated summit with President Xi Jinping in San Francisco.

The two leaders will meet on the sidelines of the APEC summit in California for their first encounter in a year as trade tensions, sanctions and the question of Taiwan have fueled quarrels between the world's largest economies.

"We're not trying to decouple from China. What we're trying to do is change the relationship for the better," Biden told reporters at the White House shortly before heading to San Francisco.

Asked what he hoped to achieve at the meeting, he said he wanted "to get back on a normal course of corresponding; being able to pick up the phone and talk to one another if there's a crisis; being able to make sure our military still have contact with one another."

But Biden also warned that the United States was wary of investing in China due to Beijing's business practices.

"I'm not going to continue to sustain the support for positions where if we want to invest in China, we have to turn over all our trade secrets," he said.

Positive momentum from November 2022 talks between Xi and Biden in Bali was derailed when the United States shot down an alleged Chinese spy balloon, delaying a planned visit to Beijing by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Since then, a flurry of high-level diplomacy, including Blinken's eventual trip to China in June, has signaled a willingness on both sides to mend ties.

Asked about Beijing's expectations for the summit, China's foreign ministry remained vague, mentioning "in-depth communication" and "major issues concerning world peace."

China has also made clear that it will not budge on issues it considers red lines, such as Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own territory awaiting reunification, and its military expansion in the South China Sea.

But Washington and Beijing have recently made some progress on trade and economic relations, and climate change talks.

"If in fact the Chinese people, who are in trouble right now economically, if the average homeowner, if the average citizen in China, was able to have a decent paying job -- that benefits them, and benefits all of us," Biden said Tuesday.

Xi will have dinner with top US business leaders on his trip, and is expected to push for a relaxation of US trade curbs in his talks with Biden.

Delhi Health Minister Addresses Concerns At GTB Hospital Amid Sanitation Allegations

Delhi Health Minister Addresses Concerns At GTB Hospital Amid Sanitation Allegations

Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday visited a city government-run hospital in east Delhi, hours after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed him to take corrective action following a social media post that alleged insanitary conditions in its toilets.

After visiting GTB Hospital, Bharadwaj said in a post on X that "instructions were issued to the health secretary" to take appropriate action against the culprits.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal shared a post on X in response to one made late on Tuesday by a user, alleging insanitary conditions in the hospital's toilets.

"Delhi's sick hospital toilets are overflowing, full of filth; this is how the hospitals of Delhi are. The picture is of the largest GTB hospital across Yamuna, where patients, attendants, and staff have to pass by a toilet with a cloth over their mouths. The cleanliness system in the hospital is zero," the user alleged in the post, along with a photograph.

Responding to the post, Kejriwal directed Bharadwaj to visit the hospital and take "corrective steps" to improve amenities at the facility.

"I have directed the health minister to visit the hospital today along with senior officials and take corrective steps," he wrote.

Later in the evening, Bharadwaj said on X, "On the instructions of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the cleanliness system has been improved at GTB Hospital. Instructions were issued to the health secretary to take appropriate action against culprits so that patients do not have to face such problems in the future."

Bill Gates Predicts Everyone Will Have AI Personal Assistant In 5 Years, Reality To "Change Completely"

Bill Gates Predicts Everyone Will Have AI Personal Assistant In 5 Years, Reality To "Change Completely"

Bill Gates, a co-founder of Microsoft, made a bold forecast about artificial intelligence and stated that everyone will soon have a robot "agent" working for them, as per a report in Fortune. "In the near future, anyone who's online will be able to have a personal assistant powered by artificial intelligence that's far beyond today's technology," the billionaire said. He added that "software is still pretty dumb" even in this age and time. However, he predicts that the world would "change completely" in the next five years.

He added, "Agents are smarter. They're proactive- capable of making suggestions before you ask for them."

The tech mogul said that everyone will have a personal assistant that can do almost anything, pointing out that the technology can even arrange whole trips for its users. "When asked, it will recommend things to do based on your interests and propensity for adventure, and it will book reservations at the types of restaurants you would enjoy," Mr Gates said. He added, "If you want this kind of deeply personalized planning today, you need to pay a travel agent and spend time telling them what you want."

These remarks come as the world is witnessing advancement in AI technology, with the emergence of new platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Bing, Google Bard and Elon Musk's Grok. Mr Gates went on to say that AI tools will "do even more" than productivity tools. "If you have an idea for a business, an agent will help you write up a business plan, create a presentation for it, and even generate images of what your product might look like," he stated.

"Companies will be able to make agents available for their employees to consult directly and be part of every meeting so they can answer questions," he continued.

He said that no single company will dominate the agent business. He did point out that most AI agents in the future will probably be available at a price. Mr Gates said, "(But) if the number of companies that have started working on AI just this year is any indication, there will be an exceptional amount of competition, which will make agents very inexpensive. Today, agents are embedded in other software like word processors and spreadsheets, but eventually they'll operate on their own. Whether you work in an office or not, your agent will be able to help you in the same way that personal assistants support executives today."

The co-founder of Microsoft claimed the technology will be utilised for a variety of purposes to simplify life, performing more intricate activities than those which are performed by voice assistants today. He asserted that they will be able to help with  "virtually any activity and any area of life."

"If your friend just had surgery, your agent will offer to send flowers and be able to order them for you. If you tell it you'd like to catch up with your old college roommate, it will work with their agent to find a time to get together, and just before you arrive, it will remind you that their oldest child just started college at the local university," he said.

PM Modi To Visit Birsa Munda's Village In Jharkhand, Launch Schemes For Tribals

PM Modi To Visit Birsa Munda's Village In Jharkhand, Launch Schemes For Tribals

Four days ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reached out to tribals and announced he will go to the native village of their icon Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary and launch a welfare scheme for the community as he blasted the Congress was ignoring adivasis for 60 years.

Campaigning for the BJP for the November 17 polls, Prime Minister Modi assured the people of Madhya Pradesh that all promises made by the ruling party will be fulfilled if it retains power and advised them to be wary of the Congress, saying the opposition outfit can even promise to build a "castle of gold" to wins elections.

"After two days, Bhawan Birsa Munda's birth anniversary will fall (on November 15). We celebrate it as 'Janjatiya Gaurav Divas' (Tribal Pride Day). Tribesmen have played a big role in freedom struggle," he said, addressing an election meeting in Barwani district which has a sizeable number of adivasis.

The Congress never cared for tribals, while the BJP stands for their respect and social justice, said Prime Minister Modi.

"I am going to the village of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in Jharkhand on November 15 where I will launch a welfare scheme for tribals. I am going to bow down there," the Prime Minister stated.

Madhya Pradesh has the highest tribal population among all states. It has 47 assembly seats, out of the total 230, reserved for candidates from scheduled tribes. In the last assembly elections in MP, the BJP did not fare well in tribal reserved seats.

Official sources said in New Delhi the Prime Minister will launch a Rs 24,000 crore scheme aimed at holistic development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) on the occasion of 'Janjatiya Gaurav Divas' in Jharkhand.

The scheme -- PVTG Development Mission -- will be a huge step towards the empowerment of tribals, they said, adding this will be a first-of-its-kind initiative.

At the Barwani rally, Prime Minister Modi accused the Congress of ignoring tribals while in power.

"In 60 years after Independence, the Congress neither worked for tribal development nor accorded them respect," he maintained.

Modi reminded the gathering that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, headed by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had set up a separate ministry for tribal development.

"When a BJP government was formed at the Centre, our tribal brothers got their due respect, and a separate ministry for tribal welfare was created," he said.

He maintained the indigenous people in Madhya Pradesh have benefited from the "double-engine" government (BJP in power in the state and also at the Centre).

Asking voters not be get carried away with the "false" promises of the opposition party, the Prime Minister said, "Wherever the Congress comes to power, crime rate reaches its peak, riots become commonplace and atrocities against sisters and daughters increase." The BJP's star campaigner said states governed by the Congress have flourished after the party has been removed from power.

"Wherever the Congress comes to power even prosperous states get ruined. After getting power, the Congress indulges in loot. The people of MP have to be vigilant," he maintained.

Mentioning the 2022 killing of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Prime Minister Modi said, "Could we even imagine that in India we would ever hear a slogan like 'sar tan se juda' (a reference to beheading)? But this has happened in the land of braves - Rajasthan - under misrule of the Congress." Kanhaiya Lal, 48, was killed with a cleaver inside his shop on June 28, 2022. The assailants claimed they hacked Lal to death to avenge an alleged insult to Islam.

Rajasthan is going to the polls later this month.

He pointed out that the Grand Old Party had promised the sun and the moon to farmers, women, youths and state government employees of Himachal Pradesh, but they all were deceived after it won elections last year in the hill state.

Karnataka, where the Congress came to power in May this year, also went down the same path, Modi and added development has come to a standstill in the southern state.

"If the Congress can do this to a prosperous state like Karnataka what will they do to Madhya Pradesh?", the Prime Minister said, cautioning the people of the BJP-ruled state against the opposition party Modi said the Congress can even promise to build a "castle of gold" to the people of Madhya Pradesh to win elections anyhow.

"The Congress had pushed MP into a "dark well". The BJP has pulled it out The Congress only aims to fill its empty coffers after coming to power," he stated.

"They will promise to give a palace of gold and then say they will extract gold from potatoes and then build it," he remarked, taking a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 2017 comment of making "gold from potatoes".

People can see in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan (both ruled by the Congress), how piles of notes earned through illegal means were coming out every day, Prime Minister Modi stated.

The Prime Minister said abuses hurled at him will be crushed by people's love for him.

"Money was stashed under beds. You love Modi, they (Congress) abuse me. Let them abuse, your love will crush their abuses," he said, apparently referring to ED's claim that a forensic analysis and a statement made by a 'cash courier' have led to allegations that Mahadev betting app promoters have paid Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel.

Baghel has denied the claim.

The Prime Minister said the November 17 elections in Madhya Pradesh are not just a fight between the BJP and the Congress.

"These elections are about deciding the bright future of Madhya Pradesh," he asserted.

The Prime Minister said no one trusts the words and promises of the Congress because of its track record in office.

"The Congress ruled from Panchayat to Parliament for 60 years, but it neither thought of welfare of tribals nor gave respect to them," he said.

The Prime Minister assured the people of Madhya Pradesh that all promises made by his party BJP to them will be fulfilled after the party retains power in the state.

"All promises made to you will be fulfilled. This is my guarantee," Prime Minister Modi asserted.

He said the Centre's free ration scheme, which was started during the coronavirus pandemic and covers 80 crore poor people, will be extended for five years.

The scheme, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, is ending next month.

Madhya Pradesh will have a single phase polling for its 230 seats and results will be announced on December 3.

Delhi Residents Celebrate Diwali With Crackers Despite Supreme Court Ban

Delhi Residents Celebrate Diwali With Crackers Despite Supreme Court Ban

The ban on firecrackers was violated in several areas of Delhi as people celebrated Diwali on Sunday.

People burst firecrackers in Shahpur Jat and Hauz Khas area. Several people were seen gathering at the park of the locality for bursting crackers.

The intensity of bursting firecrackers increased after 4 pm, but it was comparatively lesser than the last year.

Not many people were seen venturing out of their houses in and around the locality, except a few.

Speaking to PTI, environmentalist Bhavreen Kandhari said that bursting of firecrackers was reported at her residential area Defence Colony too.

She said that complaints were also registered at the Defence Colony police station, but no change was noticed.

"The Supreme Court's firm stance on firecrackers got blown in the smoke of the firecrackers. Despite warnings and a complete ban...implementing authorities have failed yet again. Wondering what stance will the Supreme Court take now? ...We are allowing our children to choke in the name of celebration," she said.

Till 7.30 pm, the intensity of bursting firecrackers was less in Greater Kailash and Chittaranjan Park area. It is expected that people will burst firecrackers after performing puja, people in the locality said.

In the Chhatarpur locality of south Delhi, sounds of firecrackers being burst could be heard from 6 pm onwards.

Many shopkeepers in the area were seen flouting the ban and selling small firecrackers to children.

Firecrackers were also burst by some people in south Delhi's East of Kailash area.

From 6:30 pm onwards, intermittent noise of firecrackers going off in the distance could be heard from households. While some went off with low intensity, a few other firecrackers produced booming sounds.

Meanwhile, very few firecrackers were burst in the Lalita Park area of Laxmi Nagar till 7:30 pm. Locals said the intensity may go up later in the night.

The effect was moderate in several other areas of east Delhi.

However, the firecrackers being burst this year was reportedly negligible when compared to the last year, according to residents in these localities.

The Supreme Court on November 7 had said that it order banning firecrackers containing barium binds every state and is not just limited to the Delhi-NCR region, which is reeling under severe air pollution

Hamas Hiding Weapons, Explosives In Kindergarten: Israel In New Video

Hamas Hiding Weapons, Explosives In Kindergarten: Israel In New Video

Israel claimed that their troops, which are conducting operations in the Gaza Strip, have discovered weapons, ammunition and explosive devices inside a kindergarten. The Israeli Defence Forces claimed that the school was being used by Hamas to store weapons.

Sharing a video on X (formerly Twitter), Israel Army wrote, "IDF troops found weapons, ammunition and explosive devices inside a Gazan kindergarten while operating in northern Gaza. Explosives. Inside a kindergarten."

The IDF added troops have seized many weapons and intelligence detailing "significant" Hamas battle plans from residential areas in North Gaza. Soldiers also uncovered tunnel shafts, including one adjacent to a kindergarten which the IDF said led to an "extensive underground route."

Israel has rejected rising international calls for a ceasefire in Gaza saying that it won't stop military operations in the besieged strip till Hamas is destroyed. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also dismissed the idea of the Palestinian authority returning to govern Gaza after the war ends.

Israel said rockets were still being fired from Gaza into southern Israel, where it has said about 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 taken hostage by Hamas last month.

Palestinian officials said on Friday that 11,078 Gaza residents had been killed in air and artillery strikes since Oct. 7, around 40% of them children.
